“Why Are You Mad Though?” or Some of Us Actually Have Things to Do,”

a short play set on a Sunday when all the F’s to give were delayed due to subway track maintenance.

Scene: Sunday afternoon, on a Manhattan (Actually, Queens Plaza because of track maintenance) bound 7 train. A group of guys get on the train. One guy is wearing earbuds when his phone goes off.

Guy 1: (Answering with his earbuds in) Yes? Oh, hi, Mike. Where are we? We all just got on the train.

Wait...I told you when we were leaving a while ago. Why are you mad? (He makes a confused face at the group of guys.)

Mhmm...I’m sorry. Why are you mad though? (He holds his microphone.) I don’t know why he’s mad. (Hangs up the phone.)

Guy 2: What’s the problem? We can wait for him at Queens Plaza, since we have to transfer there anyways.

Guy 1: No. We’re not doing that. I told him when we were leaving, and I’ve got to get up at 5:30 tomorrow for work. (Lights dim.) Some of us actually have things to do.

The End.
