"All This for a Rental?" or "But You're in Chicago,"
a slightly longer play set on a Friday night when all the F's to give slid off the runway at LGA the night before and caused all the flights to be delayed for at least 3 hours the following day.
Scene: National Car Rental at Chicago O'Hare Airport (ORD). There is a full line of tired passengers and my brother, Michael, finally gets to the front of the line.
Michael: Ok, so I had originally made a reservation for the Cincinnati airport. We need to be in Cincinnati the early morning, so I'd like to update my reservation to have the car picked up from here, and dropped off in Cincinnati.
Manager: Gotcha. (Starts quickly typing) Oh! I see you're a Emerald Club Member! Do you know your number?
Michael: No.
Manager: Gotcha. (Continues typing) So...I see the reservation is set for Cincinnati. You're in Chicago.
Michael: ...
Manager: Gotcha. The way your reservation is set up now, if you pick up the car here, then you'd have to drop it off here.
Michael: Ok, so let's not do that. Can you update my reservation?
Manager: Gotcha. How did you book the reservation?
Michael: I mean...online.
Manager: So it'd be best if you rebooked it the same way. It's a little difficult from my terminal to change a reservation--it's easier for me to cancel and start over. Do you have our app?
Michael: My phone actually has 10% battery left. Could you do it from your terminal?
Manager: Well, you could charge your phone while you're waiting. Here! I have a cord.
(Lights dim.) You can just make the new reservation at my terminal if that's easier for you.
(The End.)
