"The Struggle of My Surname," or "Well, It's the Same First Name,"

a short play set on a Tuesday when all the F's to give were busy in line to vote.

Scene: Voter ID confirmation table, Washington Heights.

Volunteer 1: First and Last Name?

Me: Brian Orr.

Volunteer 1: (flipping through the registered voter book) Orr, Orr...hmm...is this you?

Me: (looking down at the book) Nope. That's Brian Ortega.

Volunteer 1: (keeps looking) oh, ok...is this you?

Me: (looking again) No, not me either. That's Brian Olla.

Volunteer 2: He said his last name was Orr. O.R.R.

(Lights dim.)

Volunteer 1: Well your name IS Brian, so it's all the same first name at least.

The End.
